Pelvic Floor Strengthening
Strong pelvic floor muscles are crucial for healthy urinary, bowel and sexual function. Unfortuantely, it is common for the pelvic floor muscles to weaken with age, pregnancy, childbirth, obesity, heavy lifting and poor posture.
As these muscles lose their strength and tone, you might start to experience urinary incontinence, an increased urge to urinate, sexual dysfunction, stool leakage, and other uncomfortable symptoms such as difficulty during a bowel motion.
When it comes to incontinence (or leaking), it’s incredibly common. In fact, about 40% of women and 11% men experience incontinence and for many, this remains a hidden condition with Australian's suffering in silence.
And, the pelvic floor affects more than just your bladder. Symptoms of weakness can include sexual dysfunction, struggles to orgasm, lack of libido, prolapse, difficulty with diaphragmatic breath and back pain. For a muscle group that’s not often discussed, it plays a huge role in your everyday function.
What treatment is involved?
The Pelvic Floor Strengthening program involves a combination of Emsella chair sessions, pelvic floor assessment and education for ongoing management of your pelvic floor muscles with a tailored kegel exercise program for on-going management.
Emsella chair sessions will be determined by the severity of your symptoms and will be discussed during the initial appointment.
